It is Gormenghast castle!

It's actually the ruins of Halcyon Hall, the main building of a women's college in Millbrook, NY that closed in 1978. It really does look like some fictional setting for a novel or film - very creepy and haunted!

I have to confess, I adore old abandoned buildings, and this is one of the most haunting and atmospheric photos I've seen of one. I'd love to go there someday!
