shine within - 10" x 10" x 1" - acrylic/mixed media on wood panel
{from the Mantras & Meditations series - available for purchase in my etsy shop}
The snow falls, the world is silent; yet there are voices that speak if we will only quiet ourselves and listen...
Sojourns in the Parallel World
We live our lives of human passions,
cruelties, dreams, concepts,
crimes and the exercise of virtue
in and beside a world devoid
of our preoccupations, free
from apprehension--though affected,
certainly, by our actions. A world
parallel to our own though overlapping.
We call it "Nature"; only reluctantly
admitting ourselves to be "Nature" too.
Whenever we lose track of our own obsessions,
our self-concerns, because we drift for a minute,
an hour even, of pure (almost pure)
response to that insouciant life:
cloud, bird, fox, the flow of light, the dancing
pilgrimage of water, vast stillness
of spellbound ephemerae on a lit windowpane,
animal voices, mineral hum, wind
conversing with rain, ocean with rock, stuttering
of fire to coal--then something tethered
in us, hobbled like a donkey on its patch
of gnawed grass and thistles, breaks free.
No one discovers
just where we've been, when we're caught up again
into our own sphere (where we must
return, indeed, to evolve our destinies)
--but we have changed, a little.
- Denise Levertrov (1923 - 1997)
The painting above is one of a series called Mantras & Meditations. I will be offering that series, along with other smaller paintings and prints of larger works for sale when I open my Etsy shop in January. Happy Holidays! ♥

Really loving the background on this.

oh Carla, I didn't see this beautiful painting until now. It's wonderful!
I'm struck by how close out thoughts were for this post, but not surprised because our spirits connect.
You're a kindred spirit, for sure!
I wish you and Joel and your loved ones the happiest of holidays.

Love how she melts into the picture with the Mandala as a bright sun giving her multiple energy.
Fabulous textures and color harmonies.
Have a wonderful Christmas listening to the snow and love of dear ones. Best wishes to you Carla my new friend :)

Wonderful colours and I particularly like the contrasts in definition. The way she blends into the background/foreground is lovely, like a world within a world. At least that's how I see it:)
Beautiful!

Breathing and a sole piece -- Illustration Friday Topic!
While looking at your art, it reminds me of my life and artwork when I am soul-searching.
Thanks for sharing your feelings, poems, and works that are open to the viewer’s own story on your blog. I especially like these ones.
