Wide-Eyed

...a quick break from big paintings to do another journal page. This one was inspired by Illustration Friday's topic "wide," and Inspire Me Thursday's challenge to use crayons to make art. I made this with acrylics, Caran d'Ache Neocolor II artist's crayons, and ink. And... two finished paintings.. finally!

It's all I have to bring today –
This, and my heart beside –
This, and my heart, and all the fields –
And all the meadows wide –
Be sure you count – should I forget
Some one the sum could tell –
This, and my heart, and all the Bees
Which in the Clover dwell.
- Emily Dickinson (1830 - 1886)
Well, I also have great news! I am excited to announce an interview at my Wings 4 You Coaching blog with Susan Tuttle in celebration of her new book, Exhibition 36: A Gallery of Mixed-Media Inspiration . I am honored to have contributed a painting and article to her book, available for preorder prior to its release in November 2008. Please stop by and read about Susan's inspiring creative journey!

Your art is very beautiful and poetic. Love "wide eyes". I'm amazed to see what can be done with crayons, actually. I thought it was just for kids! Obviously not...

Carla - youre so talented!!!!!

wow, Carla. Your 2 finished paintings look wonderful! You must feel very good about this. I really like the flowers in the background on Flora, their colors and shapes are a great contrast/compliment to the woman.
Vernal Spirit is just beautiful, I think. The soothing greens & blues feed off of each other in contrast to her face. I just love it when you add leaves and other things (paper, drawing) to the subject's hair!! It's my favorite!
hope to see you again soon, lenna

Hi Carla
I am really keen on the journal piece, it has an immediacy about it that is really appealing. I also think the judicious use of filters adds to the quality, A gem among many others on this blog, really excellent work!

I need to get some of the crayons. I have some, but must not be as good as yours. Beautiful!

Your process of working in a journal first is something I want to try. I am not sure why I have never preplanned my work or even experimented with them before attempting an actual work. Thank you for your earlier post about this process.
I really enjoy the pattern, designs, and fantasy quality in your work. It is wonderful.

I can't wait to see your art work in Susan's book. I love your use of the neocolor crayons, acyrlic and ink. The skin tone on flora is breathtaking. : D
