My father used to say,
"Superior people never make long visits,
have to be shown Longfellow's grave
nor the glass flowers at Harvard.
Self reliant like the cat --
that takes its prey to privacy,
the mouse's limp tail hanging like a shoelace from its mouth --
they sometimes enjoy solitude,
and can be robbed of speech
by speech which has delighted them.
The deepest feeling always shows itself in silence;
not in silence, but restraint."
Nor was he insincere in saying, "Make my house your inn."
Inns are not residences.
- Marrianne Moore - (1887 - 1972)

Fist off, what an incredible, layered piece Carla.
I read your link and found it very inspiring and thought-provoking. How good to see this fireman produce such wonderful, unique work. Part of me sees where he's coming from and can relate at times to his point about sharing too much and how it can "take the wind out of your sails". Still, I think it doesn't work the same for everyone and for the most part, I find the more I share someting--a concept or idea, say as with blogging about an art project, the more I'm motivated to do it and stick with it. It's strange how the internet works, or how we artist types can work the net, getting inspiration from others while also inspiring ourselves to get motivated and do more.
